What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Human Resources position at South Cook Intermediate Center?
The Director of Human Resources will oversee all of South Cook Intermediate Service Center’s human resources functions and ensure the effective management of human capital within the organization. This role involves strategic planning, development, and implementation of HR policies and programs, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, and training and development. The Director of HR works closely with senior leadership to align HR strategies with business goals and drive organizational success.
Essential Duties :
- Direct a program of recruitment, screening, selection, employment and onboarding / orientation for all licensed and non-licensed educational, office and support staff in collaboration with department directors
- Ensure compliance with all laws, policies and protocols related to hiring, interviewing, background checks, mandated trainings and licensure / certification
- Stay abreast of new laws, regulations, trends and other topics related to human resources
- Direct a program of personnel administration that addresses salary and benefits, attendance, time off, evaluation / supervision and retirement (IMRF and TRS)
- Maintain complete and accurate records and generate reports regarding human resources data for review, analysis, compliance and goals
- Work in collaboration with administrators to create and update job descriptions to ensure that the duties and skill sets are clearly defined, aligned and optimize productivity
- Develop and maintain employee handbook aligned to federal and state laws and South Cook policies and practices
- Provide consistent communication and guidance related to personnel policies, procedures and compliance
- Process all aspects of employee information updates (hires, transfers, terminations, etcetera) in the ERP program and EIS and maintain accurate data changes and data integrity
- Maintain and organize all personnel department documents, including individual personnel files
- Create and update all procedural documentation related to hiring, interviewing, background checks, I-9s, employee files and any other reporting as assigned
- Provide accurate and current information for the human resources intranet webpage
- Facilitate meetings, workshops and seminars on a wide range of personnel topics
- Serve as a trusted, ethical and confidential resource for all staff while helping them to understand the laws and policies that govern personnel topics
- Help staff and administration navigate personnel issues that arise and optimistically and creatively problem solve to identify solutions that lead to an emotionally safe, healthy and cohesive work setting
- Assist with audit requests as needed
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned
