The Ness School of Management and Economics at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking an Advisor to support its academic programs. The school seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual to advise undergraduate students in seven major programs—including accounting, agbusiness, business economics, consumer behavior, economics, entrepreneurial studies, and operations management—and several minor programs. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
The Ness School includes approximately 35 full-time faculty members and a team of professional academic advisors. The school embodies an intellectual philosophy that economics and quantitative analysis are foundational to thriving in and critically assessing a modern global economy. Consistent with its land-grant mission, the school is the premier source for economics and business intelligence in the region. The school engages its stakeholders in the classroom, through scholarship, and through outreach. The school is a unit of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Academically advise and otherwise support the academic and professional success of undergraduate students in the Ness School.
- Participate in recruitment programs such as Jackrabbit Preview and Junior and Senior Days.
- Participate in New Student Orientation and ThumpStart programs.
- Support the management and economics career fair.
- Contribute to school efforts to enhance the undergraduate-student experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Education, Business, or related field completed by start date.
- At least one year of experience in recruitment, advising, mentoring or other related experience.
- Evidence of working independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Evidence of communicating effectively with a variety of audiences on and off campus.
- Evidence of excellent organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three or more years of experience supporting student success in a professional role or in pursuit of an advanced degree in counseling, student affairs, education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to develop programs and activities that support undergraduate-student academic and professional success, student recruitment, and student retention.
