South Dakota Mines is seeking an Assistant Director of the Ivanhoe International Center. This is a full-time, benefited position. This position reports to the Director of the Ivanhoe International Center and will assist with providing a program of assistance, support, and regulatory guidance to international students, faculty and staff to help achieve their academic objectives in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. The position also provides assistance and support for people on campus who want to pursue international and global endeavors in the STEM disciplines.
This position’s responsibilities include:
  • Recruiting international students at undergraduate and graduate level
  • Increase admission of undergraduate international students
  • Application review and processing, including international credential review
  • Understanding and implementing policies and procedures at the state and federal levels
  • International student advising in regulatory requirements, cultural adjustment, developing opportunities for student-to-student interactions, event assistance and coordination, and other activities
  • Maintaining an informative and up-to-update web site, electronic communication plan, social media, etc.
  • Increasing retention of international students
  • Assist with maintaining communication with international partner institutions
  • Assist with education abroad advising and activities including pre-departure orientations, safety issues, and general preparation
  • Actively cooperate and collaborate with other campus and non-campus entities to achieve the greatest service possible for international students and students that want to do an education abroad experience


Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree is required. Earned or in the process of completing a master’s degree is highly preferred
  • Experience working with people of different cultures is required
  • Experience working in higher education is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of rules and regulations governing international student and scholar statuses (F-1, J-1) is required
  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership and administrative skills and have a clear commitment to international education
  • Candidate will be expected to interact effectively with all campus entities
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is required
