University Marketing and Communications is looking for a Graphic Designer with creative ideas, expansive capacity, excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility to join its creative services team. Creative Services staff regularly collaborate and consult with various campus departments and colleges about their publication and marketing needs. Our award-winning team of graphic designers, photographers and writers understand the university’s needs and can take projects from conception to completion. The Creative Services unit makes the various pieces shine through the creative work of several professional and experienced graphic designers and writers. In addition to magazines and newsletters, the unit designs brochures, display banners, posters, programs, invitations, trailer wraps, wall decals and just about anything else that clients request.
This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota.

Job Responsibilities: This position is responsible for conception, design and electronic layout of marketing materials for the university, including display banners, view books, newsletters, fact sheets, posters and brochures, social media and web graphics while ensuring a consistent look that represents the university’s brand.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Graphic design practices;
- Publishing and printing;
- Variable data printing (VDP) and ability to manipulate and apply the client-supplied data to the design layout where required to meet the requirements of VDP application and customer requirements;
- Computer software and systems (Adobe: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, PowerPoint, Macintosh operating systems, and Microsoft Office);
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field, preferred; and
- Experience designing materials for print using CMYK, one- and two-color processes, preferred.
Skill & Ability to:
- Create high-quality products;
- Design electronic layout of print materials;
- Print and prepare proofs;
- Obtain printing bids;
- Establish realistic goals and prioritize work to meet competing deadlines;
- Research, gather information and communicate with clients and coworkers;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, including conveying technical information in layman’s terms;
- Work independently and as part of a team; and
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
