South Dakota State University (SDSU) is currently seeking a Manager for the Seed Certification Division to join our team. This position involves overseeing seed certification programs and coordinating with the South Dakota State Seed Certification Board and the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
This internal job posting is open to all current, permanent, full-time employees of SDSU within the Agronomy, Horticulture, and Plant Science Department.
The Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science includes over 40 faculty whose expertise spans the fields of Agronomy, Entomology, Genetics, Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Precision Agriculture, Seed Science, Soil Science, and Weed Science. The Department has a robust research program that consistently ranks at the top of departments at SDSU. Discovery and dissemination of science-based knowledge are core missions of the department. Our faculty Extension Specialists and Field Specialists provide an effective structure for meeting this mission. In academic programs, the department provides nationally competitive training for undergraduate students leading to B.S. degrees in Agronomy, Horticulture and Precision Agriculture. Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science also offers a strong graduate training environment leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Plant Science and Biological Sciences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the Assistant Seed Certification Manager and other office staff.
- Conduct educational programs to train field inspection personnel.
- Prepare, publish, and distribute the annual South Dakota Certified Seed Grower Directory and the South Dakota State Seed Certifications Standards for statewide use.
- Develop educational and informational materials to promote the use of high-quality seed.
- Cooperate with faculty and staff to conduct research on seed production, seed quality, and seed crop management.
- Organize activities of the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association (SDCIA) Board of Directors and cooperate with SDCIA members statewide.
- Represent SDSU and SDCIA on the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA), as well as with other organizations and industry groups related to seed certification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Agronomy or closely related field completed by date of application;
- At least ten years of experience in seed/grain/chemical production/sales, or as a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA), or other related experiences;
- At least six months of experience with seed certification programs;
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; and
- Valid drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as Registered Seed Technologist (RST) or a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA);
- Experience in personnel, budget, and project management;
- Seed production, marketing and testing experience;
- Experience in research and extension/outreach programs.
