Postdoctoral Research Position – Comparative Biomechanics & Thermal Effects of Chameleon Feeding: A postdoctoral research position is available immediately in the Department of Biology at the University of South Dakota to conduct research on patterns of thermal adaptation underlying movements powered primarily by elastic recoil (tongue projection) and muscle contraction directly (tongue retraction) in chameleons living in disparate thermal environments. The work associated with this project includes a variety of field and laboratory techniques, including the potential for travel to field sites in southern Africa, to address comparative (evolutionary), ecological and mechanistic questions related to thermal adaptation among different movement types. The postdoctoral position is a one-year NSF-funded position with the possibility to extend for up to three-years. A Ph.D. in biology, or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience in biomechanics, functional morphology, and/or muscle physiology is also required, and experience with high-speed videography, electromyography, and/or in vitro muscle contractile physiology is preferred. The candidate will work with the Anderson Lab in the Department of Biology, additional faculty at the University of South Dakota, and with collaborators at other institutions. Applications must be submitted on-line at https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu. Candidates are also encouraged to send a cover letter, statement of research interests, CV and names and email addresses of three references to: Dr. Christopher V. Anderson (Christopher.V.Anders@usd.edu), Department of Biology, University of South Dakota, 414 E. Clark Street, Vermillion, SD 57069, USA. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a candidate is selected. Questions about the position may be directed to Dr. Anderson.
