At South Dakota State University (SDSU) 4-H Programs, our mission is to enable youth to be engaged in partnerships with caring adults, positive learning environments, developing their fullest potential and learning life skills. SDSU Extension 4-H is a community that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4-H through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4-H camps. We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future.

Job Responsibilities: Provide timely 4-H Youth Development research-based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth in the county and/or reservation while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Computer systems and software (i.e., MS Word, Outlook, Excel);
  • Planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for a variety of youth audiences; and
  • Supervisory techniques.

Skill & Ability To

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Use effective written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Work as a contributing member of a team;
  • Plan events and manage a budget; and
  • Collaborate on funding proposals or grants to support new and/or enhanced programming.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child, Youth, or Human Development, Education, or other related fields with relevant youth development experience;
  • Previous 4-H or similar youth development experience;
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs; and
  • Experience in publishing materials and/or curricula.

Required License: Valid driver's license

Comments: This position is classified as Program Assistant II. SDSU is a tobacco free environment.
