The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Driver Licensing. This is a full-time, 40 hour-per-week position in the Division of Administration. For more information on the department, please visit https://dps.sd.gov/.
The program director will oversee the implementation of screening and testing applicants for driver licenses, issuing licenses and ID cards, ensuring applicants are legal residents of the U.S., deterring identity theft through employee training and verification systems, ensuring applicants are medically qualified to hold a driver's license and re-evaluating potentially unsafe drivers who have been recommended for retesting. There are approximately 650,000 driver's and 50,000 ID card holders in South Dakota.
The director will:
- provide leadership and strategic direction to employees that cover 3 state exam stations and 26 city/county driver's license sites (non-state employees);
- supervise staff and is responsible for the program budget;
- report to the Director of Administrative Services.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid South Dakota Drivers License.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor's degree in administration, business, management or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Must have a positive attitude and be self-motivated.
