This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Human Services Center. For more information on the Human Services Center, please visit https://dss.sd.gov.
Summary: This position prepares the monthly billing to counties, private payers, Medicaid (for nursing home patients), and Indian Health Services. The incumbent collects billing information for ancillary services provided by outside medical providers. They determine the appropriate payer through information gathered on guarantors and liable third parties. The position receives incoming payments, maintains records of those payments, scans checks/money orders into the state bank account, and applies those payments to patient accounts. The incumbent collects on accounts receivable, to include possible payment arrangements and write-offs. The position should expect to be cross trained on other business office duties as well as other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience with claim submissions to liable third parties, such as Medicaid, Medicare, private health insurance and Indian Health Services. Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare and Indian Health Services eligibility.
Knowledge of:
- standard bookkeeping and record keeping practices;
- computer program applications/accounting software;
- state accounting system;
- billing practices involving individuals and government entities;
- revenue chart of accounts.
Skill to:
- conduct research;
- make daily decisions on routine matters;
- organize and prioritize simultaneous projects;
- develop efficiencies within the business office;
- work with diverse patients and payer sources on financial matters.
Ability to:
- follow written directions such as code books, a chart of accounts, and policies/procedures;
- communicate clearly, both orally and in writing;
- use a personal computer and a variety of software;
- compile and analyze data;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, department officials, the public, etc.;
- maintain records and prepare reports, some of which may be confidential.
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
