Black Hills State University is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Behavioral and Natural Sciences. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and will work closely with faculty to maintain and enhance high-quality academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to foster an innovative environment in which students and faculty are engaged with their disciplines, resulting in graduates who are equipped to have a positive impact in the region, the nation, and the world.
The College of Behavioral and Natural Sciences consists of two schools : Behavioral Sciences and Natural Sciences. Disciplines include biology, chemistry, exercise science, forest and grassland ecology, geology, human services, outdoor education, physics, psychology, and sociology and more than 30 faculty members. The College offers both undergraduate and graduate programs and maintains offerings on the main Spearfish campus and at the Rapid City campus.
DUTIES :
As the chief administrative officer of the College, the Dean provides leadership in recruitment and retention efforts, budget management, curriculum development, program accreditation, long-range academic planning, faculty development, grant development and research, and maintenance of high academic standards. The Dean is also responsible for the supervision of all college faculty and administrative support staff.
REQUIREMENTS :
Candidates must possess the following :
- Terminal degree in one of the behavioral or natural sciences
- Academic experience commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor
- Administrative experience at the department, school, or college level
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
