Job Overview:

The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating company owned machinery in a safe and effective manner. Capable of operating excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, backhoes, and front end loaders. Performs various manual labor tasks requiring some specialized skills.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Understand and adhere to all safety rules and policies.
  • Participate in all safety training sessions, improve job safety skills and strive to develop the potential for advancement.
  • Inspect heavy equipment and handle preventive maintenance daily.
  • Operate equipment productively daily in all weather and ground conditions.
  • Operate heavy equipment safety and efficiently as per legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Operate bulldozers, skid steers, excavators, backhoes, and front end loaders.
  • Operate vehicle mechanical attachments and equipments.
  • Support Operators in equipment maintenance and check availability of equipment inventory.
  • Use and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Encourage workplace safety and environmental practices improvement.
  • Complete and maintains appropriate records as required.
  • Determine appropriate procedures and equipment to be utilized when carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment issues.
  • Report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
  • Commit to the overall safety of the work environment by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care and consideration.
  • Maintain safe and controlled work environment at all times.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety rules and policies.
  • Travel to a variety of work sites for extended periods of time (up to 2 weeks).
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to get along with others in workplace and respect their rights as individuals.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions with provided inclement weather gear.
  • Operate appropriate equipment and vehicles in a manner consistent with safety principles.
  • Comprehend verbal and written instructions and to perform the directed task.
  • Ability to read and/or view training materials and safety information and to comprehend same.
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and ability to apply them in work day situations.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to stand for long durations and work in hot and cold temperatures.
  • Work effectively on a daily basis with standard supervision.
  • Present an overall professional image.
  • Perform essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
  • Deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public
  • Able to climb in and out of truck 3-4 steps (elevated 4 feet into cab).
  • Model and promote acceptance and respect for differences among .
  • Perform effectively as a member of a team in carrying out South East Mowing, LLC’s stated mission and philosophy.
  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, forklifts, skid loaders and other tools as directed by management.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work overtime if needed

PREFERRED:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
  • Six (6) months' experience in equipment operation.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

  • Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, twisting, and reaching to ground level and overhead; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds
  • Pushes and pulls up to 150 pounds.
  • Holds and grips objects.
  • Subject to working in awkward positions and periods of prolonged standing.
  • Based on equipment available for use and weight of tools needed to perform function, must insure individual weight does not compromise the safety to self, co-workers, or equipment.
  • Working conditions are primarily outdoors with exposure to dust and pollen.
  • Occasional exposure to allergenic plants such as poison ivy.
  • Subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to constant and extreme noise.
  • Susceptible to mechanical and electrical hazards associated with equipment and utility lines.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals when working with pesticides.
  • Subject to other safety hazards associated with tree trimming activities.
