About The School:
South Edgecombe Middle school serves 275 students in grades 6-8 from the rural communities of Pinetops, Crisp, Macclesfield, Conetoe and surrounding areas. We are centrally located to larger municipalities in Eastern North Carolina such as Tarboro, Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Greenville. Our proximity to these cities gives us access to resources and partnerships that support both our students and staff. We are a true community school as many of our students’ parents attended middle school here and their grandparents attended high school on our campus! These connections to the community and deep family roots garner tremendous pride and support, both in and for our school! At South we function as a school family where student achievement and well-being are central to every decision that we make. Our motto, “Open Hearts. Open Minds. School Initiatives:
Our flagship initiative at South Edgecombe is our Academic Support program. This course provides an opportunity for all students to receive social emotional support and develop transferable life skills while supplementing academic knowledge and introducing global competencies. Academic Support teachers serve as Academic Advisors for students to ensure that they are making adequate progress in their core classes by monitoring grades and attendance while maintaining contacts with parents. Additionally, students are provided with intervention and/or enrichment in Math and ELA during this class using small-group instruction as well as digital learning programs such as iReady and IXL. We have one Academic Support teacher on each grade level and all students attend this class daily. The Academic Support class provides the flexibility to take a comprehensive approach to growing productive citizens, while promoting the pursuit of passions and supporting core content.
