Job Description
TITLE: Student Monitor (lunch)
REPORTS TO: Elementary School Principals
JOB GOAL:
- To enable students, through meaningful playground/indoor leadership, to enjoy the group interactions and physical exercise that are an integral part of the district’s educational program
- To help establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria so that students may find mealtime a time to relax
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a High School Diploma
- Likes to work with children
- Available for approximately two hours every school day
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for organizing students into orderly lines for purchasing food and directs them to assigned tables.
- Responsible for helping students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition.
- Responsible for assisting younger students with the use of utensils when needed.
- Responsible for organizing students for orderly disposal of food waste, trays and utensils.
- Responsible for organizing groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom.
- Responsible for circulating among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need assistance and resolve minor problems as they arise.
- Responsible for informing attending teacher at once of any serious problems.
- Responsible for supervising students at playtime and maintains a harmonious atmosphere on the playground or during indoor recess.
- Responsible for assuming responsibilities for play equipment.
- Responsible for directing movement of groups to and from the playground/recess area.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Hours are 9:15am - 1:30pm Monday through Friday. Delay day hours are 11:00am - 1:00pm.
Rate –$11.87 as per the negotiated contract for the probationary period of 60 working days; followed by the regular rate of $14.83 per hour after successful completion of the probationary period.
EVALUATION:
The Elementary principal will provide an evaluation based on this job description.
