What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education Specialist - South Florida State College position at South Florida State College?
Full-time, year-round, grant-funded* position to provide advising and instruction to Adult Education students in Hardee and Highlands counties. Monday - Friday with some evening duties required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs Adult Education GED preparation classes 16 hours per week in the Hardee County Jail.
- Directly assists with the development and implementation of Integrated Education Training (IET) in the Adult Education classroom and within the jail.
- Manages classroom and supervises learning activities for both daytime and evening classes as needed for ESOL or Adult Basic Education students.
- Administers and proctors assessments for Adult Education programs at all locations as needed.
- Assists with data entry, registration, and monitoring of student progress.
- Actively participates in the development and execution of the department's overall quality improvement plan and ongoing performance assessment initiatives.
- Assists with recruitment and retention of Adult Education students at community events.
- Participates in professional development activities and represents the department at community, regional, and state-wide meetings.
- Serves on relevant college committees.
- Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
- Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:
Educational: Minimum of a Bachelor degree required.
Experiential: Experience mentoring/advising and working with youth preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) and teaching experience preferred.
Other: Candidate must have excellent communication skills, ability and desire to work with a variety of people of diverse backgrounds, and a record of successful and proven leadership. Ability to work flexible work schedules as needed. Proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel) preferred.
