What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security (DeSoto Campus) - South Florida State College position at South Florida State College?
Part-time, year-round position to serve as unarmed security worker at the SFSC DeSoto Campus. Typical work schedule: Monday - Thursday (afternoon/evenings).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Checks inside and outside of building and locks doors when rooms are not in use.
- Turns off lights when not in use.
- Conducts visual inspection of fire prevention and life safety equipment in building to see that the equipment is operational.
- Checks student areas on regular basis.
- Provides intercampus safety escorts to students and staff upon request.
- Conducts random visual inspection of exterior fire escapes to insure no one is using them for entrance or exit of building except for emergency.
- Patrols parking area on a regular basis, writes parking tickets, and assists people per College policies.
- Monitors security surveillance camera system, acting upon suspicious activity observed (which may include investigating/reporting to college supervisors or dispatching the sheriff's office for immediate help.) Aids with downloading and securing stored footage for incident investigation.
- Facilitates and initiates contacting emergency services (911) for emergencies which may arise at the campus (e.g. medical emergencies/EMS, Fire Department or Sheriff's Office), Aids campus with emergency response.
- Prepares a security report each shift and lists any probl�ems that need to be corrected, such as replacement of lights, inspects in building, motors not running properly, roof leaks, etc. Makes note of any person entering buildings after duty hours and lists the type of cars, College decal number, license number, etc. Does not publicize security stations. Forwards reports upon shift closure to Security Supervisor via email.
- Assists with College special events (including traffic control in parking lots, etc.) as needed.
- Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
- Acts as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)/responsible person for Title IX and Clery Act compliance. Must participate in all required CSA/responsible person training.
- Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Educational: High school diploma preferred; must be able to read and write effectively and be knowledgeable in fire prevention and safety practices.
Experiential: Experience in security work is preferred.
Other: Flexibility to work various shifts is strongly preferred. Must be willing to submit to a polygraph examination. Must hold a current State of Florida Security Officer license (Class D or higher) or be willing to attend training and secure licensure within the first ninety (90) days of employment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, customer service, and computer skills preferred. Job requires long periods of standing and walking for patrolling. Position requires occasional lifting of 25 pounds or more.
