OB-GYN Residency Program Director

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking OB/GYN physician leader to establish and direct our new OB/GYN Residency Program. As the Program Director, you will have the unique opportunity to develop the curriculum, cultivate the clinical learning environment, and guide accreditation processes from the ground up. You will serve as the central figure in shaping a robust residency experience that emphasizes clinical excellence, scholarly activity, and holistic patient care.
Position Description:
- This is a full-time hospital employed position, with 50% administrative (20 hours per week) and 50% of the time would be clinical
- 5 day a week schedule
- Weekday call would be 1:4 and Weekend call would be 1:6
- We have an on-site OB Hospitalist group that can assist with call coverage and handles all unassigned call through the ED

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Accreditation:
- Work with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive OB/GYN residency curriculum that meets and exceeds ACGME standards.
- Oversee the ACGME accreditation process at the program level, ensuring the program fulfills all accreditation requirements and quality benchmarks.
- Collaborate with SGMC Health leadership, affiliated healthcare partners, and academic institutions to optimize clinical education and infrastructure.
Resident Recruitment, Mentorship & Evaluation:
- Recruit, select, and mentor a cohort of highly qualified residents, fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
- Guide resident performance reviews, ensuring they achieve defined milestones, competencies, and professional development goals.
- Serve as a role model in patient care, professionalism, and interprofessional collaboration.
Curriculum & Faculty Development:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty to design innovative didactic sessions, interactive teaching modules, and evidence-based clinical rotations.
- Encourage and support faculty development, promoting excellence in both clinical instruction and mentorship.
- Integrate simulation, emerging technologies, and other educational tools—enhanced by the partnership with Mercer University School of Medicine’s Simulation Lab—to enrich the resident learning experience.
Scholarly Activity & Research:
- Promote a culture of inquiry and research, encouraging resident and faculty participation in scholarly projects, presentations, and publications.
- Facilitate the partnership with Mercer University School of Medicine to expand research opportunities and engage in joint scholarly endeavors.
Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement:
- Actively engage with SGMC Health leadership, community stakeholders, and regional healthcare entities to align educational goals with community health needs.
- Serve as a key ambassador for the program, advocating for women’s health and ensuring broad program visibility in the community and beyond.
- Remain committed to continuous quality improvement in educational strategies and clinical outcomes.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Georgia
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care for at least three years, with a proven record of mentorship, academic achievement, and leadership is required.
- Documented experience in graduate medical education, teaching, and/or administrative leadership within an accredited residency program, or equivalent experience acceptable to the Review Committee is preferred.
- In-depth familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards, milestones, and the CLER (Clinical Learning Environment Review) framework is preferred. Training and mentorship is available for the highly motivated candidate.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within an inter-disciplinary team and with referring physicians to provide high quality patient care
- Passionate about quality, service excellence, safety, process improvement, program development and team building.
- Possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to create a positive and productive environment that promotes collegiality and innovation in all settings
