POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team, the Spiritual Services Coordinator has overall responsibility for the provision of quality spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers of Hospice of South Georgia, either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors. Works closely with other interdisciplinary team members and faith community leaders in local congregations to ensure that spiritual needs are met for all HOSG patients, including those who may be of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. Represents the Agency while providing and coordinating educational activities for the Faith Communities within the Hospice of South Georgia service area. This position requires flexible hours with some evening and weekend coverage due to Faith Community Education and Outreach activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Requires an individual who is representative of a specific spiritual belief with documentation of ordination or commission by a recognized faith group
- Required completion of at least one unit of clinical pastoral education (CPE) from a nationally recognized provider such as the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education
- Completion of four units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) and a letter of endorsement from a hospice is preferred as a Best Practice (O.C.G.A. 290-9-43-.03(d))
- Required graduate of a seminary, school of theology, or other approved ministerial training program
- Prefer Master’s degree or greater from an accredited seminary or school of theology
- Minimum of five years of religious leadership experience, some of which as a hospice/hospital chaplain preferred
- Preferred experience in developing and offering educational programs
- Demonstrated ability to network with community clergy and congregations
- Must possess excellent human relations/interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to work as member of interdisciplinary team in meeting the unique spiritual needs of the terminally ill
- Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to the hospice philosophy and nationally-based standards of spiritual care, including age-specific issues of pediatric and geriatric populations
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with persons of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds and different lifestyles
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, handle pressure and delicate situations
- Must be self motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently
- Must have current GA driver’s license
- Must have current CPR certification
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Hospice office, patient homes, nursing homes, inpatient hospice unit, and community settings. Primarily weekdays but occasionally requires long, irregular, or flexible work hours including some weekend or evening hours. Travel within service area. Periods of stress and emotionally difficult situations. Physical work may require sitting, standing, bending, pushing objects, lifting up to 25 lbs. Ability to operate telephone, fax, copier and computer. May attend out of town seminar/meeting 1 – 2X per year.
