Activities Director - Job Description
South Hamilton Community School District
Purpose: To provide each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding and principles of fair play.
Reports to: Superintendent
Requirements:
- Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization and experience required.
- Administrator w/ evaluator approval and/or bus with air brakes license preferred but not required.
May be combined with other part-time teaching and/or administrative duties.
Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic and activity programs.
- Schedules all events and practices. Collaborates with Heart of Iowa Conference athletic directors to establish conference athletic schedules and schedules non-conference opponents.
- Creates, updates, and maintains the online district calendar.
- Coordinates all home and away events including but not limited to ticket sales, fundraising, concessions, official assignments, and transportation arrangements.
- Interviews and makes recommendations to hire to the administrative team.
- Assumes general coaching responsibility in the event the head coach and/or assistant coach is not available due to sickness, unforeseen absence, or a vacancy.
- Supervises coaching staff by evaluating, supporting, training, and providing professional learning to coaches.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies. Makes orders and/or equipment repairs for performance and safety as needed.
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events and concessions connected with the athletic department, and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accountability of money involved.
- Manages all aspects of the department budget as well as purchasing necessary equipment for sports teams within the budget.
- Regularly meets with and advises booster club leadership and personnel.
- Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games. Ensures all athletic contests are conducted in accordance with all IHSAA, conference, and district expectations. Addresses spectator and athlete behavior as needed.
- Oversees the athletic physical examination program and concussion testing.
- Completes IHSAA required documentation related to all athletics and activity programs and maintains accurate records.
- Communicates to and with parents and the general public regarding the school’s athletic contests.
- Attends HOIC, IHSAA, IGHSSA, etc. meetings for athletic directors regularly.
- Establishes and maintains communications with professional personnel and the school community, formally and informally, on significant matters pertaining to athletics, recreational programs, and student “good conduct”.
- Organizes weight room and open gym supervision.
- Enforces school policies related to athletic eligibility and conduct violations.
- Compiles and disseminates coaches’ handbook.
- Follow school board policies and district/school procedures and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or superintendent designee.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
