Preschool Assistant Teacher

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but other duties may be assigned.

· Exemplifies godly character as prescribed in the company’s constitution in all areas including but not limited to appearance, communication and interaction with others.

· Being a help to the teacher- cutting out crafts, putting together crafts helping children listen and obey during lesson time, helping children with seatwork, etc.

· Helping to teach the children songs, poems, Bible verses, letter, counting etc.

· Preparation of food- including dumping and filling cups, setting out and cleaning up snacks, helping distribute lunch.

· Feeding of children- some assistance at lunch may be required (i.e. cutting up larger foods: chicken patties, loaded potatoes, etc.)

· Changing diapers at the changing station. Being able to pick up children and or helping the children climb the stairs on the changing table.

· Helping to potty-train children each January and able to change soiled garments

· Able to maintain discipline in the classroom, in accordance to the state regulations and company policy.

· Able to maintain cleanliness of room, tables, counters, floors and bathroom throughout the day. Always leave the classroom clean.

· To love and comfort the children when they are upset and or hurt.

· To listen to the children and interact with the children.

· To help with separation of children and parents.

Language Skills

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as, but not limited to safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.

· Ability to speak effectively to parents about their child’s day and behaviors (keeping in mind the sandwich method: something good, something bad and something good).

· Ability to speak effectively to coworkers and resolve any issues that may arise.

· Ability to speak effectively to supervisor about any concerns, problems and needs that arise.

· Ability to ask questions when things are not clear.

Reasoning Ability

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram from.

· Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.

· Ability to make simple decisions-

o It is raining should I go outside to the playground or should I go to the little gym?

o A child is climbing on the cots should I stop them or allow them to continue?

o All of my children are here today should I leave the class to go to the restroom or should I contact my supervisor and see if she can let me go?

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
