TITLE: Installer
DEPARTMENT: Doors, Frames, & Hardware (DFH)
REPORTS TO: DFH Director
WORK HOURS: Mon through Fri 6:45am – 3:15pm (mandatory 30 minute lunch)
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION: We are seeking someone interested in developing with our growing, dynamic team! An Installer in DFH is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of metal hardware within various structures, including residential/commercial doors, frames, and hardware.
This role requires precision, a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, exceptional stewardship, and a strong understanding of safety protocols.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in the installation of doors, frames, and hardware.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in residential shower installation.
- Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and stored properly.
- Measure, cut, and shape glass to specified dimensions.
- Install glass in windows, doors, skylights, storefronts, and other structures.
- Apply sealants or adhesives to secure glass and prevent air or water leaks.
- Fit glass into frames and secure with fasteners or other materials.
- Review project scopes, submittals, and fabrication drawings prior to arriving on the jobsite.
- Understand proper installation techniques for the products that are to be used.
- Set and coordinate daily expectations with the field manager and relay them to the glaziers.
- Ensure materials needed are available to meet the daily goals.
- Determine the most efficient method for repair or replacement.
- Install new doors, frames, and hardware and ensure installation is properly sealed and secured.
- Send a daily report with pictures documenting the happenings and accomplishments of the day
- Report broken or damaged material to the field manager. Send pictures of labels if available.
- Make sure the jobsite is organized and efficient.
- Make sure the jobsite is clean and our material is safe upon leaving for the day.
- Report incidents to the field manager and general contractor as required.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the safety of self and others.
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to glass installation and repair.
- Follow safety protocols on every project to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Communicate with clients to understand their needs and preferences
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality workmanship and addressing any concerns.
- Keep open communication with managers; they are your first call with any questions, concerns or problems.
- Communicate manpower, material, and machinery needs with the field manager.
- Minimize conflict and negativity
- Facilitate a productive work environment.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as carpenters and builders.
- Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Continuously update skills and knowledge of new glass products and installation techniques.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, depending on the project.
- Exposure to potential hazards, such as broken glass and sharp tools.
- May require working evenings, weekends, or overtime to meet deadlines.
- Comfort working at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Must occasionally lift and/or carry up to eighty pounds.
- Ability to lift heavy glass panels and materials.
- Twist, reach and bend often.
- Possess strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, Physical stamina and strength.
- Possess the ability to ascend and descend a ladder.
- Exposure to hot and cold conditions, noise, chemicals, heavy equipment, and machinery.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in glass technology is a plus.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
- Valid driver’s license with good standing driving record
- 1-2 years of working experience utilizing power tools is a plus
- Proven experience as an installer or glass technician is preferred.
- Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and installing material.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
- Good judgement, communication, and customer service skills.
- Working mechanical experience and skills are a plus
