SOUTH KINGSTOWN SCHOOL DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: Assistant Football Coach Location: South Kingstown High School Report to: Athletic Director and Head Football CoachSouth Kingstown High School: South Kingstown High School is a public high school, dedicated to developing students to become problem solvers, critical thinkers, effective communicators, technology users, and contributing members to a global workforce and society. South Kingstown High School is a grade 9-12 comprehensive high school serving over 900 students.Position Summary: The Assistant Football Coach is primarily responsible for coaching the Varsity Football Team as well JV Football program. The position also requires duties such as: Assist the Head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competitionAssist the Head Coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities as directed by the Head CoachAssist the Head Coach with game strategy.Maintains the equipment in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.Model behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectatorsFollows established procedures in the event of an athletes injuryModels nondiscriminatory practices in all activitiesTraveling to and from away contestsParticipates in special activities to include parents night, banquets, award nights, etc.Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improvecoaching performance.Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach, Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.Requirements: Rhode Island Teaching Certificate preferred1-3 years of experience coaching Football at the High School level preferredComprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount. Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and proceduresDemonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the court.Must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.Must possess the ability to assess players.Candidates will be interviewed and the candidate who ranks highest in the interview process and meets the requirements of the position will be recommended for the positionCompletion of a successful interview.Successfully complete the RIIL-NFHS sponsored Fundamentals of Coaching CourseSuccessfully complete a standard First Aid and CPR course. Successfully complete the NFHS Concussion Course. (renewed annually)Successfully complete the Rhode Island State Component. (renewed annually)Successfully complete the online course NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

(renewed annually)Successfully complete a Background check. Successfully complete any additional courses assigned by the RIIL. New coaching hires must complete all courses within six (6) months of date of hire.The Assistant Football Coach is required to abide by the RIIL rules, abide by, and assist in implementing and enforcing all policies of the South Kingstown School District and the Athletic Administration.
