Family Engagement  Liaison - South Lake High School 

 

Job Summary: South Lake Schools provides extra support and school site services to students and their families related to family engagement with a particular focus on school attendance. The School Family Liaison works under the supervision of, and reports directly to the school principal, providing culturally competent service coordination, including referrals, service planning, and monitoring progress of student attendance.

 

Representative Duties: (The position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this position, but it is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements.   • Monitor student attendance and assist with various attendance procedures.
  • Collect data and accurately prepare and maintain a variety of attendance records and files regarding student attendance, tardiness, and truancy.
  • Plan and implement identified strategies from the Attendance Playbook, by Attendance Works, including, but not limited to Engaging with Families, Positive Greetings at the Door, Incentives, Early Warning Systems, and Targeted Home Visits.
  • Communicate with students and parents regarding attendance and related issues; make and receive phone calls and notes regarding student attendance concerns and problems.
  • Make home visits as necessary.
  • Provide student attendance information to staff, parents, and authorities as requested; explain and interpret policies and regulations regarding school attendance.

  • Prepare accurate attendance information and required documents and materials for Child Study Teams (CST), Administration, parent meetings, and truancy interventions.
  • Refer serious attendance problems to the MISD according to established procedures; assist in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism.
  • Develop service plans, provide referrals, and monitor progress related to student attendance.
  • Coordinate with community organizations to provide support to students and families.
  • Utilize a variety of service strategies, including individual meetings, family meetings, home visits, and collateral contacts.
  • Participate in Student/Family Study Teams, Attendance Team meetings, and staff meetings and training, as required.
  • Operate computers and peripheral equipment to enter, revise and update information. 
  • Perform other duties directly related to the position, incidental in nature, as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Associate degree required or equivalency in a services field. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in an education or education related field.

 Experience:

  • Two years of case management or related experience.
  • Working with children and/or adolescents providing direct services to individuals and/or groups is desired.
  • Working in a school-based or community-based family support program with case management emphasis is preferred.

Licenses and Other Requirements: 

  • Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and the availability of an automobile.
  • Cleared background check.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
  • Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position under sometimes stressful conditions. 
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines, operate an automobile. 
  • Vision sufficient to read printed materials.
  • Hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations.
  • Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, and in addressing groups. 
  • Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, and to reach overhead.
  • Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, District, from school or home site to site). 
  • Drive an automobile and respond to emergency situations.
  • Physical strength sufficient to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. 

 

Terms of Employment:    180 workdays, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, based on District calendar.

 

Compensation:  $25.00 per hour

 

ADA Requirements:  School building, office, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending; extensive interaction with students, staff and parents, the school community, and the public; research incidents; travel; first aid/CPR.
