Provides patrol through the city for animal related issues enforces laws and ordinances relating to animals in the city; responds to complaints of unsanitary conditions, animal nuisances, stray or dangerous animals, injured animals, dog bites or attacks and cruelty to animals.
Utilizes specialized equipment, such as catchpoles to capture animals; picks up and transports animals to shelter, veterinarians, adoption locations or to owner's home; removes dead animals from streets.
Conducts investigations into animal related violations; becomes familiar with and utilizes police and animal control software system(s) in order to document activities; testifies in court as a witness; responds to inquiries via phone and radio; assists police officers with animal containment, transport, and control.
Presents animal education programs to groups to inform public of local ordinances and responsibilities regarding animal ownership assists with immunization clinics sponsored by the city provides microchipping services.
Issues animal licenses and citations for animal related violations cites owners for animal related violations; collects fees and documents in city approved software programs; maintains records of all drugs used; maintains security of shelter and vehicle as well as drugs and equipment used.
Maintains the animal shelter; coordinates with the kennel worker regarding duties and provides additional support in keeping the shelter facility clean and organized; assists with trash removal, cage and kennel cleaning, and sanitizing, mopping floors, laundry, office and restroom cleaning.
Cleans and maintains the outside kennels and shelter areas and storage shed, and adoption cages in retail outlets where shelter animals are housed; provides daily feeding and care for animals, as well as observation of medical or behavioral issues.
Maintains records of every animal upon intake at the shelter in city approved software program and outcome of the animal; provides reports to Chief of Staff documenting activities; provides recommendations and requests for shelter equipment and supplies.
