South Ottumwa Savings Bank is accepting applications for a full time Ag Loan Officer at our Church Street Location in Ottumwa, Iowa.
We are a growing bank in Southeast Iowa that is seeking an energetic and experienced AG lender to fulfill the entire agriculture lending function of the Loan Department at our Church Street location in Ottumwa, Iowa. This individual is responsible for the management and growth of an established ag loan portfolio and generation of new agricultural loan relationships through prospective and current clients, while ensuring compliance with regulations and Bank policies and procedures in the process of transacting business. The Ag Loan Officer actively promotes the sale of all South Ottumwa Savings Bank products through outside sales calls, cross-selling products, and taking an active role in the community through service and professional associations.

POSITION: AG Loan Officer
SUPERVISOR: Senior Vice President/Senior Loan Officer
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Perform ag lending responsibilities in this full time, non-exempt from overtime position scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, including some regularly scheduled Saturday mornings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new ag clients. Provide a high level of customer service and make suggestions for enhancements to current products and services obtained from the Bank. Make annual farm visits and perform periodic visits to clients.
- Develop new agricultural loan business in the bank’s designated trade area by making outside sales calls to prospective and existing clients on a regular basis.
- Communicate with customers to explain and loan products, terms and conditions and negotiate terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with with regulations and alignment with Risk Management and Bank policies.
- Maintain and monitor ag loan portfolio and identify potential risks and deficiencies.
- Be familiar with all products and services offered by the Bank and actively market and cross-sell as appropriate: personal use of bank products and services by Ag Loan Officer is highly encouraged.
- Analyze financial statements, credit reports and other relevant information to assess the creditworthiness of loan applicants.
- Underwrite new business and prepare and deliver credit presentations to Loan Committee.
- Contribute to the improvement of the department and the organization by staying current on existing industry trends and competitor offerings to identify new business opportunities. Participate in efficiency initiatives.
- Assist in budgeting process to include setting and achieving loan quality and loan volume.
- Become an active member in the community by attending networking events and developing relationships with leaders in the community. Participate in community through volunteerism, leadership, and involvement with civic and non-profit organizations.
- Serve as an active member on the Bank’s Loan Committee.
- Understand and follow Bank policies and procedures and applicable regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:
Prior experience as an Ag Loan Officer or Originator. Bachelor’s degree in ag or business related field highly desired. Understanding of agribusiness operations, ag and bank products and services, and credit practices. Demonstrated success generating new ag business and maintaining client relationships. Track record of growing and managing an ag loan portfolio. Strong personal drive, initiative and demonstrated work ethic. Ability to exercise sound professional judgement with ability to observe the highest degree of confidentiality of information. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to present product and service offerings to prospects and current clients. Aptitude for computer applications. Excellent organizational, time management, problem solving and listening skills. Travel to visit prospects and current clients and to attend meetings and events in the area.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
MEETINGS:
Attend all meetings held by committees of which individual is a member.
