What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welding Technology Instructor position at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC)?
The Welding Technology Instructor is a full-time, 12-month instructional staff position that provides quality learning opportunities in order to support South Piedmont Community College students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations through completing a diploma, certificate or degree in Welding Technology.
Essential Duties Summary
- Create a learning environment that meets the needs of all learners,
- Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to student learning through dedication to delivery of instruction and services, and to student learning outcomes,
- Master South Piedmont Community College instructional platforms,
- Enhance South Piedmont Community College instructional materials by contributing additional content, or by designing engaging classroom activities,
- Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency,
- Acts as an advocate for the program during Open House events, Career Fair events and other promotion and recruitment events
- Presents a positive image of the Welding Technology program and the college to both internal and external customers
- Advise students on career planning, and course planning to prepare for their ideal careers
- Advises on the selection of textbooks, OERs, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency
- Demonstrates a high-level of professionalism in developing and/or managing relationships with learners,
- Contributes to long- and short-range plans in accordance with the philosophy of a learning-centered college
- Develop strong partnerships with appropriate employers and other community stakeholders in support of program and college improvement
- Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
- Stay current with developments in the field of learning technologies and learning theory
- Stay current with developments in the discipline by earning additional industry-recognized credentials as assigned by the supervisor
- Adopt a personal practice of learning teaching strategies and managing a learning-centered environment,
- Actively participate in continuous Program improvement through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course and program levels,
- Reflect the College’s mission, vision, values, and core skills in all interactions with students, colleagues and community members,
- Ensure accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college,
- Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following campuses: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus or Tyson Family Center (both in Monroe), in high school and community locations (Anson and/or Union counties), or in a correctional setting (Anson County),
- Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online,
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director Applied Technical Programs (immediate supervisor), the Dean for Continuing Education, or the Vice President of Business & Workforce Solutions
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of either:
o An associate’s degree in Welding Technology from an accredited institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Education, American Welding Society Certifications in Plate and/or Pipe, and five (5) or more years of full-time work experience in the Welding Technology field, or
o Documentation of significant and extensive experience in the Welding field demonstrated through American Welding Society Certifications in Plate and/or Pipe, eight (8) or more years of full-time work experience, technical and performance competency, records of publications, or other qualifying credentials.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing,
- Working knowledge and utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications and other technology platforms, and
- Prior experience teaching or training co-workers, apprentices or junior colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Welding Technology,
- An AWS CWI or CWE certification with documentation
- American Welding Society Certifications in Plate and Pipe,
- Prior experience teaching within a high school, community college or online environment,
- Prior experience developing course material for high school students, adult learners, and senior populations,
- Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills,
- Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments
