Position Overview:
The Trades Instructor/Lab Facilitator – Truck Driving Academy Program Lead is a full-time 12-month instructional staff position that provides instruction, lab facilitation, and course development in support of curriculum and continuing education courses taught in the Construction, Manufacturing, and Transportation/ Distribution/Logistics career clusters within the School of Applied Technical Programs. Licenses and/or certifications used for credentialing purposes must be kept current by the employee, unless noted otherwise.
The Program Lead assumes primary responsibility for curriculum and assessment of the Truck Driving Academy program of study within the School of Applied Technical Programs. This individual is an academically qualified faculty who holds degree credentials or other qualifications appropriate to the program. The Program Lead is responsible for coordination of curriculum development and review. The Program Lead ensures that the program contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency. Job responsibilities of the Program Lead are considered additional duties beyond those of instructional staff.
Required Qualifications:
· Academic qualifications equal to at least one of the following career clusters, with a working knowledge/experience in at least two:
o Architecture & Construction:
§ A minimum of:
· An Associate’s degree in Electrical Systems Technology, Construction Technology, or related field from an accredited institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Education; and five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience in a construction- related field - or
· Documentation of significant and extensive experience or contributions to construction- related disciplines as demonstrated through: one of more of the following currently valid licenses - NC Building Contractor or Residential Contractor license, NC Electrical Contractor license, NC Plumbing Contractor license, or equivalent; work experience; technical and performance competency; records of publications; or other applicable qualifying credentials.
o Manufacturing:
§ A minimum of:
· An Associate’s degree in Industrial Systems Technology, Welding Technology, or related field from an accredited institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Education; and five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience in a manufacturing- related field - or
· Documentation of significant and extensive experience or contributions to manufacturing- related disciplines as demonstrated through: one of more of the following currently valid licenses – NIMS or MSSC certifications in an Industrial Systems area, NCCER certification in construction and maintenance, American Welding Society (AWS) certification in 1F/1G, 2F/2G, or 3F/3G positions, or equivalent; work experience; technical and performance competency; records of publications; or other applicable qualifying credentials.
o Transportation, Distribution & Logistics:
§ A minimum of:
· An Associate’s degree in Transportation and Logistics, Automotive Systems Technology, Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology, or related field from an accredited institution that is recognized by the United States Department of Education; and five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience in a transportation/distribution/logistics - related field - or
· Documentation of significant and extensive experience or contributions to transportation/distribution/logistics - related disciplines as demonstrated through: one of more of the following currently valid licenses – CDL Class A or B license, OSHA forklift license, ASE certification in Automobile or Medium/Heavy Truck, NC Certified Emission Inspector-Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Operator license, or equivalent; work experience; technical and performance competency; records of publications; or other applicable qualifying credentials.
· Five or more years of commercial truck driving experience
· Currently valid Class A CDL
· Clean driving and criminal records
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
· Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
Preferred Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Systems Technology, Construction Technology, or related field – or
· A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Systems Technology, Welding Technology, or related field– or
· A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Transportation and Logistics, Automotive Systems Technology, Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology, or related field
· 10 or more years of experience in a combination of residential or commercial construction; electrical installation and repair; site grading and excavation; or commercial truck driving,
· Minimum of the equivalent of one academic year of full-time teaching experience in a public or private educational setting
· Experience with course development
· Familiarity with a course management systems such as Moodle
· Knowledge of lab facilitation procedures

· Maintains and updates all master course documentation specific to the program
· Maintains and updates all master class schedules specific to the program
· Manages annual audit and update of all Canvas master shells
· Creates and submits semester class schedules as directed by the Department Chair/Director/Dean
· Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college
· Participate in student recruitment, retention, advising, and registration activities
· Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), in high school and community locations (Anson and/or Union counties), or in a corrections setting (Anson county)
· Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online
· Monitor laboratory activities; enforce rules and regulations and ensure a safe lab environment
· Prepare lab facility for classes and ensure that work areas are clean and neat; ensure that equipment, materials, and handoutsare laid out for lab classes
· Assist in maintaining lab equipment; perform simple maintenance, clean and store equipment when not in use,monitor condition, and notify supervisor of any needed repairs
· Monitor inventory of lab materials and supplies, initiate ordering process as needed.
· Research and evaluate new lab equipment, and make recommendations regarding purchase decisions
· Maintain a library of lab materials
· Maintain records of laboratory activities
· Collaborate in the design of new lab activities and experiences for the students.
· Participate in or support the mentoring process, the SPCC Foundation, and grant identification, preparation, implementation, and evaluation
· Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
