Job Description
This person’s primary responsibility is litter removal. There is, however, some flowerbed work
in the summer. Litter is defined as paper, cups, sacks, etc.
Pick-up all litter within the boundaries of South Plains College property from College Avenue to the eastern most boundary of the College.
1. Keep all outside trash and butt cans emptied. Many require emptying three or more times per week.
2. Rake-up cigarette butts around all building doors weekly.
3. Pick-up and dispose of trash at the Greenhouse, Bookstore, and Dome on a regular basis and
as otherwise directed.
5. Meet Animal Control and help them load whenever there are biological specimens to be
disposed of at the Science Building.
6. The majority of this work is done on foot and with very little other help.
7. There will be times when the work-week will need to be shifted to Tuesday through Saturday (due to scheduled events), otherwise the work-week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
8. On snowy or icy days reports for work at 7:00 a.m. and helps with snow and ice removal.
9. Keep the area around Administration, Fine Arts, Creative Arts, Student Center, Founder’s Plaza (the patio area in front of the Student Center), patio area in back of Student Center, Women’s Gym, and Cosmetology spotless.
10. Clean the benches, trashcans, and butt urns weekly with cleaner and a rag.
11. Clean the litter from Founder’s Plaza (the patio area in front of the Student Center) several times a day.
12. Remove all tumbleweeds that blow in.
13. Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Other work required of you will include but is not limited to:
- Safely operate all types of grounds equipment (tractor, mower, loader, ditcher, chipper, packer, edger, chainsaw, backpack and snow blower, etc.)
- Read and understand plans and equipment parts lists and breakdowns
- Lay Pipe and Brick; Dig Holes and Ditches; Put Up Temporary Fence; etc.
- Plant and Prune Trees, Shrubs, and Flowers; Paint, Lay Out, and Repair Parking Lots; etc.
- Some electrical and plumbing.
- Christmas Lights and Decorations
- On snowy or icy days reports for work at 7:00 a.m. and helps with snow and ice removal.
- Pick up trash as needed.
- Any and all other work as specified by Grounds Supervisor
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities except as assigned by Grounds Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or
two-step instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license and insurability.
Possess or be able to obtain a Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator’s License from the Texas Department of Agriculture within 6 months of employment.
