Job description: Billing Specialist
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing medical claims, ensuring timely payment, and resolving billing issues. This role involves interacting with insurance companies, patients, and clinical providers to ensure accurate billing practices and maintain compliance with industry regulations
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies (electronic and paper).
- Verify patient eligibility and insurance coverage.
- Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness.
- Follow up on outstanding claims and denials.
- Maintain accurate records of billing and collection activities.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare industry regulations and guidelines (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid).
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Billing Lead.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in medical billing or a related field.
- High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding (ICD-10, CPT), and insurance billing practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and handle paperwork.
