Our Opportunity

SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of IT Customer Support Technician - Entry.

The IT Customer Support Technician supports the work of the College by providing technology support, both on a telephone and drop-in basis, to students, faculty, and staff. Technicians respond to technology questions and problems, troubleshooting problems with users and providing triage to appropriate escalation levels whenever necessary.

  • What You'll Do

    The technician position performs consulting, programming, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and / or technical support for college technology users. The position uses established industry standards and innovative approaches to complete assignments and coordinate assigned projects. The position is part of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team and reports to the Client Services Director.

    Classroom Instructional Computing and Multimedia - Works with faculty to determine instructional computing needs. Facilitates the setup, configuration, and installation of the determined solution within the standards of College classroom setups to ensure a stable computing environment. Installs and maintains standard, stable AV systems in classrooms, including projectors and audio systems.

  • Responsible for deployment of established standard, stable Windows and OS X images to be used on instructional computers using industry-standard tools and techniques to both Olympia and Lacey Campus locations.
  • Testing deployed images to ensure functionality and compatibility between hardware and software.
  • Installing and maintaining audio & visual equipment, including projectors, Crestron Control Systems, speakers, and web and document cameras.
  • Performing normal maintenance on all classroom equipment to ensure proper functioning proactively.
  • Responding in person or remotely to faculty and staff calls for assistance with classroom / instructional computers immediately so as to limit classroom downtime.
  • Perform troubleshooting for specialty Instructional programs to include Dental, Nursing, Architectural Engineering Construction, and Computerized Manufacturing.
  • General Desktop, Laptop, and Device Support & Troubleshooting - Works directly with staff to determine administrative computing needs. Responsible for deployment and testing of standard, stable computing images. Provides troubleshooting and support for all IT equipment, including servers, workstations, mobile devices, thin clients, printers, scanners, telephone, teleconference systems, and department-specific equipment and software, such as credit card readers, Testing solutions, and document imaging solutions.

  • Documenting procedures and anomalies in clear, non-technical language using an industry-standard document store
  • Configuring software and hardware.
  • Answering Help Desk calls, emails, and work order requests.
  • Create and respond to Help Desk work order requests.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing desktop computers, laptop computers, mobile devices, printers, scanners, phones, and other department-specific equipment within the standards of the college.
  • Re-imaging and / or updating computers as necessary.
  • Student Support - Works as part of a team to provide primary technical support for students in navigating the college's technology landscape.

  • Responding to requests to troubleshoot provisioning and maintenance of college logins
  • Provide technical support and training in the use of the college's laptop loaner program
  • Provide technical support for students using standard college administrative applications, including but not exclusively the Microsoft Office365 suite, web applications, file applications, and Zoom.
  • Software Imaging - Responsible for deployment and testing of standard, stable desktop images to support classroom and administrative workstations.

  • Deployment of standard and specialized images on a campus-wide basis for both the Olympia and Lacey campuses.
  • Perform regularly scheduled updates on laptops, desktops, and other college-owned devices
  • Computer Rollouts - Works as part of a team to roll out new classroom or administrative workstations.

  • Installing and configuring new workstation systems on the college network according to college standards
  • Installing and configuring, upgrading, testing, and maintaining software applications on college workstations
  • Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining peripheral devices
  • Accurate and current maintenance of asset information in the inventory database
  • Accurate and current information about retired / surplus assets in the inventory database
  • Qualifications You Possess

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Two year degree or equivalent AND two years of applicable technical experience OR equivalent education / experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks, maintain office confidentiality and accommodate numerous interruptions.
  • Position requires high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others and function as a team member.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and software applications, as well as basic Networking, Active Directory, and Voice over IP protocols.
