On-Call Security Officer

South River is seeking an On-Call Armed Security Officer for our operation in Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of personnel, clients, and property in accordance with the standards and requirements for South River and our client.

This job is for someone who can work in the daytime during the week and have less than 8 hours of notice to be at one of the 2 facilities. Sometimes, notice can be given days in advance, but not always. This is an as-need position and is not guaranteed hours. This position is to cover security officers that call out of work. Hours for the facilities is: Hampton: 7am to 5pm M-F and Newport News: 7am to 6pm M-F.

Key Responsibilities:

• Physical Presence: Establish a visible physical security presence and provide visual deterrence against potential threats.
• Patrol Duties: Conduct hourly patrols of the premises, both inside and outside, to monitor for suspicious activities and ensure the safety of all individuals on site.
• Dealing with Disorderly Persons: Assist in managing difficult or disorderly individuals and remove them from the premises when necessary, using the proper use of force steps.
• Parking Lot Monitoring: Oversee the exterior parking lots, ensuring the safety of persons entering and exiting the building, and coordinate with clinics and offices as needed.
• Visitor Log Maintenance: Maintain a detailed daily log of all visitors to the premises.
• Emergency Response: Summon appropriate assistance from law enforcement and emergency services using a provided cell phone when situations are deemed dangerous or when instructed by the client.
• Equipment Inspection: Inspect and report any issues with security-related equipment, such as doors and locks.
• Emergency Evacuation Assistance: In the event of an emergency or building evacuation, assist and direct clients and employees to exits, ensuring all areas are evacuated.
• Security Camera Monitoring: Monitor security cameras to detect and respond to any suspicious activities.
• Reporting: Maintain detailed logs and reports of daily activities, including any security incidents.

Position Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for up to 6 hours.
• Must be capable of lifting 40-50 lbs.
• Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.

Qualifications:

• Required: Valid DCJS Armed Security Officer License in the state of Virginia. DCJS ID MUST have a Firearms endorsement with a minimum of basic handgun category.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in armed security, or law enforcement, or military.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certifications in security-related fields are preferred.
• Skills: Great Customer Service, strong observational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Clearances: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
• Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are preferred.
• Firearm: Must have your own reasonable firearm for the job.

Additional Requirements:

• Must meet the specific standards and requirements set forth by our client.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal security regulations, particularly as they apply to health districts and public health facilities.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
