SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the direction of the SOROCO HS/MS Principal, the Athletic Director assists the school administrator in the oversight and organization of all aspects of the SOROCO middle and high school athletic programs to create a positive and rewarding experience for the student athletes of the school district.
MISSION
The athletic department will facilitate students to become people of character, empathy and integrity, who will lead, be responsible, and have confidence in their choices.
All students are encouraged to participate and to learn to manage time, athletics, and the art of communication. Our most important goal is to provide a positive experience which can be used for the foundation for strong leadership. Our programs are open to all students from novice to advanced.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Athletics
- Coordinate all aspects of the Grades 6-12 athletic program, which include recruiting athletes, scheduling,
transportation, eligibility management, coaches, athletes and parent meetings, coordinate referees and game management
- Maintain detailed and accurate records for all events.
- Work with the HR manager for personnel management, which includes hiring, training, supervision and
evaluation of all coaches or other employees associated with the athletic program.
- Supervise and manage all athletic events. This includes supervising games or arranging for supervision
with the other building administrators, providing referees when needed, concessions, scheduling and promotion.
- Work with the finance director to manage the budget and ensure proper allocation of funds for all
activities and athletic programs.
- Oversee and maintain the eligibility process for athletes in relation to academics, health and residential
eligibility.
- Ensure that SOROCO is in complete compliance with all Colorado High School Activities Association
(CHSAA) and SOROCO High School policies and procedures.
- Maintain necessary communication and compliance with CHSAA as the high school liaison, including
attending league meetings.
- Maintain all athletic facilities by working with maintenance staff for pre and post event needs.
- Perform all duties required by the Western Slope 2A League and attend league meetings.
- Work with the Booster Club.
- Promote sportsmanship and school spirit, while creating a positive, rewarding experience for all.
- Communicate with the community, parents and students concerning the Athletic Program.
General Building Administrator Duties
- Work with the other building administrators to help form a cohesive team where we support, trust and
help each other accomplish our respective duties.
- Assume responsibility for all duties of school management when principals are out of the building.
- Help deal with student discipline when necessary.
- Declare awareness of school philosophy, academic programs and what this school is all about.
- Coordinate the transportation requests and oversee field trips.
- Communicate clearly with the other building administrators when assistance is needed in accomplishing
any of the above responsibilities.
- Work with and effectively communicate with all district administrators and directors.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Coordinate and verify all coaches are CPR Certified
- Three to five years prior experience as Athletic/Activities Director preferred, but not required.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members.
- Ability to conduct studies, prepare reports and make oral presentations.
- Computer knowledge required.
- Ability to compile statistics for research and reports.
- Ability to discipline students in keeping with school and district procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Teacher and/or Administrator experience preferred.
