What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher Pool position at South Sanpete School District?
GENERAL FUNCTION
The substitute is temporarily assigned to replace the classroom teacher or paraprofessional. The substitute is responsible for the continued education of the students assigned to them within the classroom. Substitutes are also responsible for following established lesson plans and classroom management procedures created by the assigned teacher and maintaining a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Become familiar with school policies and procedures, such as attendance, discipline, support systems, class schedules, lesson plans, and emergency procedures. Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
- Be available for substitute opportunities, sometimes on short notice.
- Travel to the assigned location promptly.
- Follow lesson plans provided by the teacher.
- Maintain classroom management procedures and supervise students at all times.
- Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
- Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and the school campus.
- Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate with the classroom teacher regarding the work completed, if lesson plans were altered, and if any problems occurred.
- Correct work completed by the students during the day if the teacher requests.
- Be a positive role model.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to District Policies.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a cleared fingerprint criminal background check.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
- It requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Ability to follow established lesson plans.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Effective problem-solving, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
- Ability to calmly handle classroom management issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and patrons.
- Ability to work as a member of a team as well as the ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
