The Government Banking Relationship Manager is responsible for the business development activities and portfolio management of government banking clients. Duties include prospecting new Government clients, facilitating account opening & treasury management onboarding, ongoing relationship management / servicing, retention, and other administrative tasks required to support the client relationship or department. Along with the Sr. Government Banking RM, the candidate will serve as an in-house subject matter expert related to Government Banking.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Markets specialized financial services to state, county and local Municipal bodies, school districts, towns, housing authorities, utilities, special districts and other public and quasi-public entities.
- Sources prospects, creates relationships and builds a portfolio of Municipal clients.
- Actively manages the portfolio, aiming toward business retention and cross-selling of existing clients.
- Achieves individual objectives in support of overall Government Banking program goals.
- Optimizes the portfolio by focusing on growth, profitability, and market share objectives.
- Supports sales process by attending sales calls, identifying & attending appropriate events / meetings, structuring proposals, and acts as a resource to internal / external clients.
- Creates detailed notes on client / prospect interactions, outreach and servicing.
- Provides excellent client support during and after implementation of banking services.
- Possesses clear and working knowledge of all government banking products as well as the bank's digital capabilities.
- Troubleshoots client issues to resolution and escalate as needed.
- Works collaboratively with applicable internal business partners and departments, including Holding Company affiliates.
- Ensures proper collection of all necessary paperwork to open / modify client banking accounts / relationships.
- Serves as the ambassador of South Shore Bank to all municipal entities where business relationships can be created.
- Attends educational and business development opportunities to promote South Shore Bank's Government Banking program.
- Develops business plan and works with management to modify as needed.
- Cross-sells other banking services as applicable.
- Actively participate as a member of the appropriate county / state-based Government associations.
- Travels within territory for client / prospect calls and Government-focused meetings / conferences including, but not limited to, MCTA, MASSNAHRO, County Treasurer / Collector Associations & local Chamber of Commerce events.
- Completes all internal Bank training as assigned and required.
- Adheres to the Bank's privacy and data security policies including but not limited to safeguarding of sensitive information and complying with relevant regulations to protect non-public information.
Requirements
COMPETENCIES :
EXPERIENCE
Minimum aggregate three years' banking, cash management, municipal treasury / collections or financial services experience required. Previous Government Banking or Municipal Treasury / Collections strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
