Job Description Summary
As a Hospitalist Physician at SSH, you will report, through the Hospitalist Program directors, to the Chief of the Department of Medicine. You will perform medical services faithfully, with due diligence and efficiency, in accordance with the applicable standards of your profession, canons of professional ethics, and all laws and SSH policies. SSH recognizes that teamwork and flexibility are essential to providing 24-hour patient-centered care. You are expected to be respectful of your patients and other health care providers, and to adhere to HIPAA standards regarding patient confidentiality.
Job Description
Essential Functions
1. Patient Care
Provide clinically appropriate care, including prompt response to emergency consults and attendance at all codes.
Ensure that patient care needs are met by prioritizing tasks effectively.
Show compassion and professionalism when dealing with patients.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
2. Communication
Keep patients and families informed of medical issues.
Inform other hospitalists of active issues.
Maintain communication with referral PCPs and specialists.
Be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism.
3. Documentation
Ensure admission H&P addresses abnormal findings and includes a focused plan for inpatient evaluation.
Write clinically appropriate progress notes that include abnormal findings.
Document daily progress notes indicating the necessity for continued inpatient care.
Provide documented rationale for continued monitoring of telemetry patients.
Dictate discharge summaries on the day of discharge, including follow-up plans and outstanding issues.
Clearly identify primary care physicians in all documentation.
Ensure legible handwriting and timely, dated orders.
Complete medical records weekly.
Adhere to the institutional “Do Not Abbreviate List.”
Comply with E&M coding and HIPAA regulations.
4. Teamwork
Contribute to the professional growth of the practice and participate in meetings.
Establish cooperative relationships with case managers, physician reviewers, nurses, and therapists.
Maintain professional relationships with referral physicians and medical staff.
Respond promptly to ED physicians and facilitate ED patient flow.
Start each shift on time and complete paperwork promptly.
Promote mutual respect and courtesy.
5. Efficiency
Meet expected productivity levels when admitting and rounding on patients.
Discharge patients in a timely manner.
Establish and manage clinical priorities effectively.
6. Overall
Demonstrate commitment to superior patient satisfaction.
Demonstrate commitment to superior referral physician satisfaction.
Act as a knowledgeable and valuable asset to the group.
I. Technology and Learning
Participate in continued learning and utilize new technology and procedures.
Embrace technological advances for effective communication.
Requires an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine background. Must maintain a flexible schedule to work shifts on nights and weekends. Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written, with essential experience in direct patient care. ACLS required; must maintain Board Certification status.
