Performs ultrasound scanning procedures. Reports preliminary findings and diagnoses to the Radiologist. Takes anatomical pictures to demonstrate organs.
Essential Functions
1 - Receives and reviews requests for ultrasound studies on patients of all ages from child to geriatric.
a - Performs such exams as Abdominal Echoes, Renal, Aortic, Pelvic, Obstetrical and Biophysical Profiles, small parts to include breast, thyroid and scrotal exams.
b - Able to assist radiologist with invasive procedures including biopsies and aspirations.
c - Assist surgeons in OR with ultrasound guidance.
2 - Utilizes real-time transvaginal transducers.
3 - Checks all images with the Radiologist.
a - Consults with the Radiologist about the reading or scans and reports.
4 - Provides written, unofficial reports of examinations.
5 - Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.
6 - Marks images for proper definition and explanation.
7 - Performs general clerical duties accurately, including but not limited to:
a - Greeting patients in a courteous manner consistent with the hospital’s policy.
b - Logs and checks in patients accurately and appropriately.
c - Verifies information and exams performed. Updates and changes exam description to reflect actual exams performed. This assures the correct billing of patient accounts.
d - Quality assures exams performed, to capture the technologist, the room utilized and the time utilized.
e - Disposes of used linen and supplies in an appropriate manner.
8 - Safety Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
a - Prior to the start of any invasive procedures, a final verification to confirm the correct patient, procedure, site, and information is done.
b - Verifies patient according to policy prior to administration of care/procedures/medications.
c - Follows approved procedure for verifying MD orders including a verbal readback to the licensed independent practitioner after receiving a telephone order.
d - Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing , as observed by nurse manager and peers.
e - Consistently follows the South Shore Hospital policy to mark surgical sites.
f - Makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times.
g - Adheres to respiratory etiquette guidelines.
h - Adheres to universal precautions.
i - Appropriately disposes of hazardous materials.
j - Adheres to electrical safety guidelines.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education - Preferred
Prefer graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program.
Minimum Work Experience
Need one to two (1–2) years to be fully proficient.

RDMS or eligible - Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
Monday 230-11p, Tuesday 230-11p, Wednesday 8-430p, Thursday 8-430p, Friday 230-11. One Sunday month 1230-9p (would have Thursday off this week). This role is a temporary position and should be needed through the summer
