The Controller is responsible for managing the Accounting Department, providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist leadership in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. Directs and manages company fiscal records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

South Shore Insurance Underwriters (SSIU) is a dynamic Gulf Coast owned and operated MGA (Managing General Agent) currently experiencing exciting growth across our footprint. We provide property and casualty agents with the best excess and surplus lines products available across coastal Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Nevada, Washington, Oregon and California – with continued plans for expansion, and are looking to add a Controller to our Team! This role is an in-office position in Daphne, Alabama.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Financial records and preparation of financial statements and analysis must be prepared monthly
· Monitors and oversee all the accounting operations
· Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company s performance.
· Produces the annual budget and forecasts-works with all departments to produce annual budgets and forecast
· Works with external auditors and provides
· Must ensure company is compliant with local, state, and federal government entities
· Implement processes to control costs and maintain systems to monitor profitability
· Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
· Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
· Proficiency in accounting software
· Strong computer skills including Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
· Ability to work independently, prioritize and manage tasks to meet deadlines and expectations with minimal supervision
· Confident, professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure in a busy environment
· Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong Accounting skills to include treasury, payroll, accounting, A/P, A/R and credit.
· CMA/CPA preferred
· Familiar with BI platforms like Power IB or Qlik is preferred
· Financial Modeling, M&A buy or sell side experience
· Insurance experience preferred
· Local to the area or willing to relocate
