The Commercial Associate is an hourly role and will learn underwriting, loan processing, portfolio management and the relationship management process and apply these skills to acquire new Business Banking clients as well as service & grow existing client relationships. The Commercial Associate will eventually become proficient as a Commercial Portfolio Analyst, Sales Portfolio Specialist, or another role seen fit by management with the potential of progressing, based upon performance and job availability.
Areas of concentration include commercial term loans and lines of credit, cash management and treasury services, owner-occupied and investment real estate loans, SBA guaranteed loans & lines of credit. Associate Relationship Manager will also work with closely with the commercial banking staff and sales partners to build their knowledge base and sales capabilities so that these partners are able to generate more business banking opportunities and production.
The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced team-oriented environment. Successfully candidate will also have strong analytical skills, organizational skills, the ability to clearly articulate business credit needs and assemble supporting documentation for loan and fee-based services requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:During your rotation:
This position is expected to perform the specific duties, tasks, and responsibilities as outlined below:
Work in various departments to contribute to success of the department while learning how SouthState processes transactions, loans, learn underwriting, ratios, and other various credit functions etc.
Represent SouthState in local community. May involve community service/development opportunities.
Develop new and profitable business along with identifying key centers of influences in your markets.
Identify and direct cross selling opportunities within current customer base.
Execute highly focused prospecting activities.
Structure credit solutions for existing and potential customers; advocate customer/prospect position in credit approval process.
Develop and maintain deep understanding of customer's financial condition and needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of SouthState products, services, and capabilities.
Participate in multiple job role rotations including Credit Analyst, Portfolio Manager, and Relationship Manager.
Demonstrate knowledge of the multiple lines of business at SouthState including but not limited to Commercial, Credit, Retail, Treasury Management, Merchant Services, Correspondent and SBA.
OTHER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including good presentation skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
Proficient with general office machines and programs to include Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software that might be utilized in the department
Ability to use the computer efficiently and the capacity to learn new software programs as they are rolled out by the Bank
Must have good knowledge of business English, including spelling and punctuation
Must possess basic English language skills in order to write and speak clearly, and effectively with coworkers and customers
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to remain seated or work standing in a confined area on a computer for a minimum of four (4) hours each work day
Must be able to constantly use hands and fingers to enter data through or on a computer or answer a phone throughout most of an eight (8) hour shift
Must be able to walk frequently throughout the day
Must be able to hear and communicate with coworkers and customers throughout the day
May need to lift up to 25 pounds one to two times a day to perform job
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position may require regular before/after normal business hours, or regular out-of-town travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics is preferred
Transcript review required with a minimum GPA of 3.0
