Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Part-Time Maintenance Technician to perform essential maintenance tasks and repairs in our building. The ideal candidate will have experience in plumbing, electrical work, changing light bulbs, and conducting routine building maintenance. You will also be responsible for scheduling and completing regular inspections, responding to maintenance requests, and ensuring the facility is safe and well-maintained. This position reports directly to the Shelter Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
General Building Maintenance:
1. Lighting Maintenance: Replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
2. Painting & Patchwork: Touching up walls, doors, and common areas.
3. Door & Window Repairs: Fixing locks, hinges, door closers, or broken glass.
4. Furniture Assembly/Repairs: Fixing office chairs, desks, cubicles, etc.
5. Flooring Maintenance: Cleaning or repairing carpets, tiles, or hardwood floors.
6. Toilets and drains: Clearing routine clogs
7. Furnace: Replacing furnace filters
8. Groundskeeping: Cleaning or organizing outdoor spaces. Shoveling and salting walkways. Scheduling and overseeing the performance of lawn and snow removal vendors.
9. Systems Maintenance: Scheduling outside vendors to repair or maintain major building systems such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, IT, security, roof, etc.
10. Fire Safety: Checking fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and emergency lighting. Ensuring emergency exits are accessible.
11. Pest Control: Coordinate monthly pest service and emergency calls.
12. Building Inspections: Inspecting and ensuring that the building complies with local codes and safety regulations.
13. Office Moves: Assisting with office furniture moves, setting up workstations, or organizing office layouts.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Experience: 1-year light maintenance or handyman work.
3. Associate's Degree (Optional).
4. Previous experience working in a similar role, preferably in an office, residential or shelter environment.
5. Valid Driver’s License in good standing. Access to an insured vehicle with required and valid IL statutory minimum insurance coverage.
Preferred Skills:
1. Proven experience in general maintenance.
2. Basic knowledge of building systems and tools.
3. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
5. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate maintenance equipment.
Work Schedule:
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule. The Property Maintenance Technician will work approximately six hours per week during normal working hours while the office is open. For safety reasons, the Maintenance Technician will never be assigned to work alone at the office.
