What are the responsibilities and job description for the Right-of-way Tree Trimmer position at South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc?
Trims trees and removes vegetation from transmission line rights-of-way in accordance with the current Transmission Line Vegetation Management Program and applicable to the ANSI tree trimming standards. Operates hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, chippers and other tools and equipment necessary for tree trimming. Performs minor parts replacements and repairs to tools and equipment. Climbs trees and works in an elevated position in accordance with OSHA and ANSI standards. Maintains daily work log and promotes good relations with land owners.
Working Conditions
Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds and pulls, pushes or drags up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Sits, stands, stoops or twists for extended periods of time. Works both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, humidity, temperature swings and inclement weather, frequent exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, loud noise, exhaust, petroleum products, wild life and other toxic hazards. Operates hand tools, heavy equipment, Department of Transportation regulated trucks, light trucks, power tools and other equipment. Wears company-provided Personal Protective Equipment. 20/20 corrected vision is required to perform visual inspection of small defects, small parts and operation of measurement devices and assembly of fabricated parts. Ability to travel to and from business-related locations. May be required to work on call, after hours, weekends and holidays and respond timely to urgent or emergency situations.
Essential Functions
- Safely and efficiently operates and utilizes tools and machinery in performance of vegetation management on transmission line right-of-way.
- Inspects, maintains, repairs and documents the condition of all tools, vehicles and equipment.
- Performs work in a safe manner in compliance with safety program requirements and OSHA regulations
- Operates hand tools, chainsaw, herbicide spraying equipment and other tools and equipment necessary for tree trimming
- Trains in tree climbing techniques.
- Performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Performs minor parts replacements and repairs on tools and equipment as needed.
- Clears brush and other vegetation from transmission easement and away from structures and wires.
- Operates chipping equipment at the direction of the supervisor.
- Patrols rights-of-way and documents state of vegetation.
- Participates in tailgate, company, and departmental safety meetings.
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
