JOB TITLE: Custodian, includes Substitutes
REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Director
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for performing a variety of cleaning tasks, minor repair, security, and general labor tasks to create and maintain a safe, clean and orderly environment for students, staff, parents and the general public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
Cleans and sanitizes drinking fountains, sinks and bathrooms, and maintains soap and paper supplies as assigned.
Cleans windows, dusts and performs other duties related to building cleanliness and maintenance.
Sweeps, mops and/or vacuums assigned rooms or areas of the building.
Performs routine maintenance as required.
Prepares rooms, gyms or other areas for special activities, events, and assemblies.
Unlocks doors as needed, secures rooms and building at conclusion of activities.
All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by supervisor.

PERSONAL QUALITIES:
Ability to relate well to others, including school staff, students, parents and other community members and students.
Proven ability to manage time and work effectively with minimum direct supervision.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
Six months related experience and/or training;
Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Recommendations by previous supervisors reflecting "outstanding" performance & capabilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute ratio and percent.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

EVALUATED BY: This position will be evaluated by the Building Administrator/Director, or as designated by the superintendent pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria.
