Salary : $215 per day
Work Schedule : Monday - Friday; no weekends; 7 : 45 - 2 : 45 PM
School counselors are advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement while serving the needs of a diverse student population. In collaboration with all educators, families and the community, school counselors create a support system through individual and small-group counseling, responsive services and leadership. As a result of the school counselor, students will acquire skills and knowledge for college and career readiness and become civically minded members of society.
Job Description / Essential Elements :
The temporary school counselor will provide short-term counseling services to students within a middle school setting, addressing immediate concerns related to academics, social-emotional well-being, or personal challenges, while collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents on a temporary basis; responsibilities may include individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, referrals to outside resources, and maintaining student records with a focus on confidentiality and ethical practices.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have a valid CA Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing in school counseling.
Master's Degree granted from an accredited institution (Required)
Bilingual / Biliterate in Spanish (Desirable)
Minimum 1 year experience in school counseling or teaching.
Location : Graves Middle School
Appointment to this position predicated upon submitting a negative TB result. In addition, the selected candidate must complete the state fingerprinting requirements and the district must receive a clearance by the California Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and submission of required documents. Within three days of employment, all new employees shall show appropriate documents, which certify that they are legally eligible to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements : While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to consistently sit for periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands and fingers to touch, feel or operate standard office equipment including technology, and reach with hands and arms; walking level surface, stand, bend and stoop; lifting objects 1-25 pounds; carry / push 1-25 pounds; specific vision abilities required include close vision to read and enter data into a computer; ability to distinguish sounds in transmission, speaking.
Mental Requirements : While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be regularly be required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform highly detailed work; work on multiple and concurrent tasks; work with frequent interruptions; work under intensive deadlines; and interact with District and program personnel, school administrators, managers, staff, vendors, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.
Work Environment : Work in an office and or school environment.
License Requirement : Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Conditions of Employment : Must provide own transportation and must be eligible for District liability insurance.
