What are the responsibilities and job description for the DHAT Scholarship Program position at Southcentral Foundation - Non Employee?
The Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Dental Health Aide Therapist (DHAT) Student is a participant in the Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program, operated in partnership between Ilisagvik College and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC). Students are responsible for learning the skills and abilities required to demonstrate proficiency to become a DHAT. The Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program is a two (2) year program. Students will complete a curriculum to provide oral health and preventative services in Alaska. Student must complete all requirements of the Alaska Dental Therapy Education Program, including spending the first year in Anchorage; with the second year and final semester being located in rural Alaska. Students must meet federal Community Health Aide Program requirements as administered by the institutional program.
Hours:
During school year hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. with one-hour lunch break. Some work outside of standard hours is necessary to complete assignments and clinical work.
Eligibility:
SCF programs are established to serve a primary population comprised of Alaska Native people who are affiliated with Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) and Alaska Native and American Indian people within SCF’s geographical service area. Students should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population. Such knowledge is critical to ensure the achievement of SCF’s vision of a Native Community that enjoys physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness, and mission of working together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services:
- Alaska Native or American Indian descent
- High School diploma OR GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Students will be expected to successfully achieve DHAT certification upon completion of the training program.
