What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Service Worker position at Southeast Alabama Youth Services?
All male secure juvenile residential treatment setting. Supervision and monitoring of juvenile residents. Basic Living Skills will be required. Shifts 6:00 am to 6:00 pm or 6:00 pm-6am, 12 hour shift.
This is entry level professional work in the supervision, observation and control of delinquent youth in a group living situation. An employee in this class observes clients at all times such as during meals, recreation or sleep, talks to and interacts with clients in order to explain rules, encourage positive behavior and establish rapport; provide a safe environment for clients and staff; reads documents such as memos, reports, manuals, and client files in order to be aware of departmental policies and clients’ activities; fills out forms such as incident reports, medication logs
Minimum Qualifications Standards:
- At least a high school diploma or a GED Certificate;
- Physical health adequate; must have annual medical examination; must be able to stoop, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Minimum age of 21 years;
- Good moral character, personal maturity, and emotional stability as evidenced by references or other appropriate documentation; Successful completion of required entrance and in-service training as approved;
- Ability to intervene if needed when children get into altercations.
