Shift Details

  • M-F, 40 hours and on-call.
  • Start date: 6/30/2025 to complete EH actions.
  • Required 2.5 days prior to VHOP.
  • Guaranteed 40-hours during VHOP and be on-call for later shifts.
  • 06/30/2025-07/25/2025

Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities Of The Job

  • Responsible for maintaining developmentally appropriate interactions with VHOP participants throughout the camp.
  • Supervise and maintain active accountability of VHOP participants; respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur
  • Visual and auditory ability to supervise youth in all program areas.
  • Skill and ability to interact verbally with youth in a variety of situations.
  • Skill and ability to assist youth physically and emotionally in emergency (fire,
  • injury, etc.) situations.
  • Ability to function in a variety of environmental conditions (loud, walk long distances in seasonal weather, outdoors, indoors with variable lighting, large groups of people, sharing overnight accommodations with another adult you may not know, etc.)
  • Accompany and supervise youth in all program areas in both structured and unstructured activity.
  • Ensure that youth and adult participants are safe (both emotionally and physically) for the entire experience including pre-event planning, preparation and travel.
  • Act as a positive role model for youth (stay with the group, be solution-oriented, refrain from cell phone use during scheduled responsibilities, etc.).
  • Model the behavior expected from youth. We expect youth to be kind, so you must be kind. We expect youth to follow guidance, so you must follow guidance.
  • Develop and maintain positive learning environment
  • Participate in all meetings and webinars—before and during the event.
  • Guide youth to follow the prescribed itinerary and timeline.
  • Respond to communications from the event lead in a timely manner.
  • Communicate in a regular and timely manner with all members of the team.
  • Communicate by email & phone/text communication as needed, chaperone must provide their own phone.
  • Work with team to ensure general setup and clean up are shared and completed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of VHOP participants, families, and program
  • Knowledge of and respect for Southeast Alaska Native culture and Southeast Alaska Native communities
  • Experience and interest in working with youth.
  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate activities with attention to detail.

Other Functions

  • Report misconduct or misbehavior incidents immediately to VHOP Staff. Ensure that you do not put your person or other persons in danger through negligence or risky behavior.

Additional Details

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • Valid AK Driver’s License and able to meet insurability requirements - required

Knowledge of

  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of privacy rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Tribal Healthcare systems
  • Knowledge of local and regional community resources and how to access them
  • Knowledge of the local road system
  • Knowledge of customs and values of Alaska Native Peoples

Ability to

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Able to work independently or as a team member
  • Able to establish personal boundaries
  • Ability to travel to other SEARHC locations

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 50 lbs.
