Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
- Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees within the ER and Acute medical department services.
- Acts as the hospital liaison with all pre-hospital emergency medical services and area Trauma referral centers.
- Organizes services and systems necessary for multidisciplinary approach throughout the continuum of trauma care.
- Assumes responsibility for the clinical and financial performance of the Trauma Program.
- Is responsible for the ongoing quality and performance improvement processes related to trauma care.
- Facilitatess Emergency Prep, ED, and Acute staff meetings.
- Participates on committees and task forces as assigned.
- Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED, trauma, and acute care patients.
- May be required to work as a staff nurse, when needed, to ensure staffing coverage of departments; this may vary depending on staffing needs of the Emergency and Acute care departments.
- Follows through on commitments, accepts responsibility for personal actions, and adapts to change.
- Supports and interprets policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the hospital.
- Facilitates staff analyses and improvement plans for ED/Acute care employee satisfaction workgroups.
- Monitorss customer satisfaction scores and implements plans for improvement.
- Monitors patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintains s departmental dashboards that include information and progress on pillars of excellence (People, Service, Quality, Finance, and Leadership).
- Investigates patient, physician, and staff complaints and concerns and works toward resolutions.
- Completes annual performance evaluations for self and employees and implements plans of correction when needed.
- Contributess to budget building and maintenance, leads cost efficient and effective operations, and creates plans of correction for any operating expenses that deviate more than 5% from budget.
- Uses problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
- Maintains required competencies for self and all employees within the departments.

Additional Details:
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required or must be enrolled in a program to be completed within 2 years.
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required. Direct Hire must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date. Agency staff must have an active Alaska license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Certification for Emergency Nursing (CEN) required as soon as eligible and within 2 years of hire
- High school diploma or GED
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire
Experience Required
- 2 to 3 years of management and/or supervisory experience preferred
- 3 years of Emergency Room experience in a similarly-sized hospital preferred
