    Qualifications:

    The Director of Food and Nutrition Services must meet one of the following criteria:

    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in any specific area
    • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and either a School Nutrition Association (SNA) Level 3 Certification or at least one year of relevant food service experience.
    • Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in a specific area and one year of relevant food service experience.
    • High school diploma (or GED) and a minimum of three years of relevant food service experience.


    Compensation: $62,500 to $75,000

    Days of Contract: 228 days

    Job Summary:

    The Director of Food and Nutrition Services is responsible for administering and overseeing the operation and staff of the food service department for Pine Island Public School. Duties include the development of food preparation standards, service, menu planning and nutritional values consistent with state and federal requirements, district policies and procedures; oversees and monitors food preparation, safety and sanitation standards; coordinates the preparation of food service and production records; monitors input into budgeting and controls department revenues and expenditures, and trains staff.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Leadership and Staff Management:

      • Supervise and lead a team of food service employees, including cooks, kitchen staff, and other personnel.
      • Conduct regular training and development sessions to maintain high standards of food preparation and safety.
      • Create employee schedules and ensure sufficient staffing levels for daily operations.
    • Menu Planning and Development:

      • Develop nutritious and cost-effective menus in accordance with federal and state nutrition guidelines for school meals.
      • Ensure that meals meet dietary requirements, including for students with food allergies or specific dietary restrictions.
      • Coordinate with local suppliers to source fresh, quality ingredients.
    • Budgeting and Financial Management:

      • Prepare and manage the food service budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
      • Monitor food and labor costs to maintain financial sustainability while providing quality meals.
      • Prepare and submit financial reports and projections to the school administration.
    • Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations:

      • Ensure food safety protocols are followed, including maintaining sanitation standards, temperature control, and food storage practices.
      • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations concerning food service and nutrition standards.
      • Conduct regular safety and sanitation audits to ensure adherence to health codes.
    • Inventory and Supply Management:

      • Oversee inventory management, ensuring adequate stock levels of food and supplies while minimizing waste.
      • Handle ordering, receiving, and proper storage of all food and kitchen supplies.
    • Collaboration with School Administration and Stakeholders:

      • Work closely with school administrators to align food service operations with the school district’s goals and objectives.
      • Communicate with students, parents, and staff to gather feedback and make improvements to meal programs.
      • Address concerns related to food service and meal offerings in a professional and timely manner.
    • Program Implementation and Improvement:

      • Lead initiatives to improve meal participation and increase student satisfaction with food offerings.
      • Implement special programs such as breakfast, snack, and summer meal programs.
      • Stay up-to-date with trends in school nutrition and incorporate innovative meal options as appropriate.
    • Sustainability and Community Engagement:

      • Promote sustainable food service practices, such as reducing food waste and sourcing locally when possible.
      • Engage with the community to promote healthy eating and wellness programs for students.
