Position Overview:
The Coordinator of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and Distance Education is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, and operational management of the LRC and Distance Education programs. This position oversees the integration of instructional support services, including tutoring, library services, instructional media, and distance education, to enhance student success. The Coordinator will personally manage all aspects of Distance Education, including course development, faculty training, and LMS administration, ensuring high-quality learning experiences for students.
Key Responsibilities:
Distance Education Administration:
- Serve as the Canvas Learning Management System Administrator, maintaining system functionality, troubleshooting issues, and staying updated on enhancements.
- Develop and maintain a Distance Education Course Development Guide to standardize and improve online course design.
- Provide instructional design support to faculty for online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research and IT to ensure timely and accurate Canvas system updates, including course enrollments, drops, withdrawals, and user management.
- Conduct faculty training on best practices for online course delivery and technology integration through workshops, webinars, and individualized support.
- Oversee Impact by Instructure and other instructional technology tools to enhance the online learning experience.
- Manage Lantern LMS (Securus) for the Prison Education Program.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and accreditation standards for distance education.
- Assist faculty with the conversion of face-to-face courses to online or hybrid formats.
- Develop and maintain standardized course templates within Canvas for branding and organizational consistency.
- Provide direct technical and pedagogical support to faculty and students encountering issues with Canvas and other instructional technologies.
- Review online courses to ensure quality standards and best practices are consistently applied across disciplines.
- Research and implement emerging trends and best practices in distance education to continually improve online learning experiences.
Learning Resource Center Leadership:
- Oversee Tutoring Central and the Library, ensuring comprehensive academic support services for students.
- Provide leadership in developing electronic information resources, databases, and instructional media services that align with institutional goals.
- Collaborate with faculty and college departments to enhance library collections and learning materials.
- Develop policies and procedures for the effective use of the LRC, including instructional media materials and computer lab operations.
- Promote student engagement through outreach activities, such as workshops, speaker series, and training sessions.
- Support information literacy programs and train students in effective research and resource utilization.
- Ensure a supportive and student-centered learning environment within the LRC.
Management and Administration:
- Supervise and evaluate LRC staff, including tutors, instructional designers, and librarians.
- Collect and analyze data on student engagement, LRC usage, and online learning effectiveness to inform continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and manage the annual budget for the LRC and Distance Education programs.
- Establish personnel responsibilities, accountability standards, and work schedules.
- Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to align LRC and Distance Education services with institutional priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Library Science, Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Two or more years of experience in a higher education setting with demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Canvas LMS administration and online course development.
- Experience providing instructional design support and faculty training in a learning management system.
- Working knowledge of online resource databases, instructional technology, and electronic learning tools.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with an Instructional Design Certificate or equivalent training.
- Experience leading a community college Learning Resource Center or Distance Education program.
- Expertise in accessibility standards, universal design for learning (UDL), and online student engagement strategies.
- Knowledge of best practices in tutoring services, library operations, and student success initiatives.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
