UT Radiologic Technologist POSITION SUMMARY: The US (Ultrasound) Technologist performs US procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply ultra-sonic sound waves to achieve diagnostically adequate US examinations. Also acts as the patients advocate while promoting teamwork with physicians and other personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
· Performs diagnostic, signal-averaged (Doppler, and Color flow) or vascular ultrasound (Carotid, Venous,
Arterial) imaging in accordance with established departmental policies.
· Performs Stress Echo with Cardiologist.
· Prepares unconfirmed ECGs for Cardiologist over read; makes quantitative calculations from data obtained and
records preliminary impression where applicable.
· Performs with set up and operate the radiology equipment to produce standard and special radiographs of portions
of the body for purposes of diagnosis and treatment.
· Perform X-ray and CAT scan examinations in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.
· Assist in the formulation and revision of technique charts to maintain established standards of radiographic
contrast and density.
· To be accessible to patients and other personnel when testing is being performed.
· Schedule patients for examinations; set up and explain procedures; position patients for each anatomical view
specified using immobilization and protective devices as required; report any changes in patient's condition to
attending physician.
· Maintain record of films taken, compiling, and recording data on patient's charts and related documents.
· Maintains patient files ensuring examinations performed are read by radiologist and report is filed.
· Ensure exams are archived properly so they are accessible for patient and comparison studies.
· Performs routine ultrasound equipment maintenance; transports patient and/or equipment, alone or with
assistance, in bed, wheeled cart or wheelchair to designated area; assists with holding venous and arterial pressure
to achieve hemostasis.
· Maintain assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition.
· Calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; stock and replenish
supplies as required.
· Informs supervisor of any institution or equipment concerns; communicates/interfaces with hospital personnel,
medical staff, patients, families, and outside agencies to ensure quality patient care; maintains a safe working
environment.
· Is involved in QAPI/CQI process. Assists in development and revision of policies and procedures.
· Assist in assuring that the Radiology Department is covered by a technologist when emergencies or illnesses
arise.
· Orient new employees. Attends meetings and in-service sessions, as directed.
· Requires regular attendance and punctuality.
· Performs other assigned duties.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not oversee other positions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Required Education and Experience
· ARRT current certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) & ARDMS.
· Experience in CAT scan required.
· CPR certified
Preferred Education and Experience
· Proficient within 2 yrs. of hire with echocardiogram to cardiologists’ standards.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
· Familiar with CPT codes preferred.
