General Description of Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Testing, the Testing Center Specialist administers and proctors make-up, placement, online / hybrid, industry-specific, GED (through Pearson Vue), and other tests administered in the Testing & Assessment Center. The Testing Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of accurate, permanent, and secure test files, and advising students on placement test results. The Testing & Assessment Center at Southeast Community College is a student-centered team that embraces positivity, compassionate leadership, collaboration, and strong relationships, both on and off campus. This is a part-time regular position.

Essential Functions

Proctoring, Testing, and Related Duties

  • Next Generation Accuplacer / Placement Testing : schedule and administer on and off-campus placement testing for students.
  • Off-campus placement testing will involve travel to remote testing sites (typically area high schools) to administer and interpret results.
  • Advise students on placement test results.
  • Complete requirements for Next Generation Accuplacer certification.
  • Implement accommodations for students with disabilities as advised by the Accommodations Resource Office.

Make-up, Online, and Hybrid Testing

  • Schedule and proctor college make-up tests, and tests from online and hybrid classes that require proctoring services.
  • Schedule and monitor test takers.
  • Communicate with other colleges / agencies regarding proctoring requests / needs.
  • Administer GED, CLEP, and Other Special Industry Tests

  • Schedule and administer GED and special industry-specific tests, adhering to Pearson Vue guidelines.
  • Successfully complete all requirements to become Pearson Vue and CLEP certified. Complete additional certifications as requested.
  • Information and Referral Duties

  • Provide general information to the public regarding the SCC Programs of Study, placement testing needs and processes, Continuing Education programs, Transitions Lab, and the ABE / ESL programs.
  • Provide specific guidance to prospective GED applicants regarding the GED education and testing process.
  • Refer students to appropriate College resources and offices based on identified needs. Assist online testing students in understanding the online testing process and how to access assistance from instructors, tutors, and other college resources.
  • Act as a liaison to instructors when students need additional assistance to solve course or instructor-related problems.
  • Academic Integrity & Test Security

  • Maintain an appropriate secure testing environment in accordance with College regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Uphold College policies and procedures related to academic integrity.
  • Record Maintenance

  • Enter placement test scores into Colleague and / or Recruit.
  • Prepare reports of testing numbers by term and on an annual basis.
  • Prepare transcripts of GED test results as requested.
  • Receive and deposit monies collected for proctored tests and Next Generation Accuplacer retests.
  • Communication

  • Positively communicate with supervisor, College staff, instructors, and students in a clear and meaningful manner.

    Marginal Functions

  • Assists with public relations activities such as campus tours, Discovery Days, New Student Enrollment, Orientation and Welcome events, community presentations, and various outreach programs on behalf of the College.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with other Enrollment and Student Affairs units, divisions, and local service agencies.
  • Coordinates referrals for the delivery of College support services.
  • Participates in local, state, and regional associations and other groups concerned with testing and assessment.
  • Provides testing information to faculty, staff, and others as requested.
  • Assists the Director of Testing with the acquisition and development of resource materials.
  • This position will require periodic travel to other SCC campuses and to off- campus locations in the SCC 15-county region for remote student testing and assessment. There may be other occasional travel to meetings outside our 15- county service region.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions / programs / areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours / days / work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and experience with computers and basic familiarity with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software. Maintenance of manual and electronic databases.
  • Excellent writing ability and specific knowledge of and experience in professional business communications.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Ability to extend friendly and helpful assistance to the public in the face of interruptions and fluctuating service demands.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work as a productive member of the Testing & Assessment Center, follow supervisory directives, and establish policies and procedures of the college. Ability to give directions and support to Testing & Assessment Center staff.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving strategies, contribute to management decisions and participate in the development or refinement of methods and procedures that will assist the Testing & Assessment Center to better serve the public.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Employees must be able to perform the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations :
  • Work at a desk for extended periods of time, continuously for 2-4 hours and up to 8 hours.

  • Present for extended periods of time, continuously for 2 - 4 hours and up to 8 hours.
  • Provide tours for up to 1.5 hours while listening and talking. Surfaces may include cement, grass, rock, or dirt and can be flat or include various degrees of incline.
  • Ability to operate a computer, computer mouse, keyboard, phone, and other office equipment continuously.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Climb stairs; climb stairs carrying up to 30 pounds; climb stairs while talking.
  • Bend, kneel, stoop, and squat to floor level on a regular basis.
  • Reach with hands and arms above the head, in front of the body, and below knee level.
  • Provide tours outside in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Ability to get in and out of, ride in, and drive a College-owned vehicle on a regular basis up to 100 miles.
  • The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Human Relations, or Business or related field.
  • One (1) year of work experience in an education setting including, but not limited to; counseling, teaching, higher education, or testing. May not be employed as either a part-time or full-time ABE or ESL instructor in any primary, secondary, or post-secondary educational institution by virtue of Federal GED regulations.
  • Must successfully complete certification requirements for Next Generation Accuplacer, PearsonVue, and CLEP within six (6) months of hire.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Human Relations, or Business or related field.
  • Two or more years of work experience in education or college student services
  • College student services is defined as : Admissions, Recruitment, Testing, Financial Aid, Counseling, Placement, Assessment, Career and / or Academic Advising, Retention, or Registration.
  • Salary

    20.02 per hour

    Benefits

    Part-time regular employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College. Additionally, part-time regular employees may enroll in supplemental benefits and the group vision plan through employee-paid premiums.

    Schedule

    Normal hours of work for this part-time regular position are scheduled by the College generally Monday through Friday, based on a 29-hour workweek, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
