Consults with staff physicians and chief medical officer on nursing issues to assure patients needs are met.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for the leadership and professional development of the nursing staff, including medical assistants if applicable.
- Develops, implements, reviews and revises policies, procedures and standards to assess, evaluate and meet the needs of the patient.
- Provides interpretations of SCHS' policies to the nursing staff, patients and community.
- Oversees standards of nursing practice annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice and to ensure safe, effective and efficient nursing care.
- Oversees problem solving, policy forming conferences for patient care services. Maintains close coordination with the management team and all departments to insure continuity and collaboration of services.
- Participates with the Governing Body, management, medical staff and clinical leaders in the SCHSs decision making process.
- Oversees all nursing aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Acts as a consultant in selection of personnel, determined by hiring policies of the facility and department, job requirements, qualifications, vacancies, availability and objectives relating to the quality of care to be delivered and PCMH.
- Establish accepted standards and develop, implement, monitor and revise infection control policies and procedures to assure compliance with the standards.
- Interacts with clinical & non-clinical staff to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve prevention processes and reduce costs.
- Develops and enforces effectual infection control policies and procedures for the organization that ensures compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory agencies.
- Conduct infection control risk assessments for construction and renovation projects; equipment inspection, and pest control
- Educate individuals and groups about the risk, prevention, transmission, and control of infection, disease-specific care, appropriate precautions, and appropriate assessments.
- Investigate, manage, and conduct surveillance of suspected & confirmed outbreaks of infection and notify local, state and federal authorities about reportable diseases as required by law.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Minimum BSN, with exceptional experience.
- Masters Degree preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current State of Louisiana Registered Nurse licensure (minimum).
- Four (4) to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current BCLS certification.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
